seeks a Collaborative Pianist!

Cantilena Women’s Chorale seeks a highly qualified collaborative pianist to support our rehearsals and performances.

 

Cantilena is an ensemble of approximately 40 singers, dedicated to performing music written for the treble voice. Our challenging and diverse repertoire spans the 15th to the 21st centuries and includes works in many different languages and musical forms. We strive to introduce both our members and our audience to works they are unlikely to encounter in other forums, with an emphasis on music composed specifically for women's voices.


Responsibilities:

  • Accompany our weekly 2.5 hour rehearsals on Mondays, including holidays, from 7:30-10:00 p.m, September 2021 – early May 2022. When the ensemble rehearses in person, it is regularly at First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Arlington, MA. We will soon be finalizing our in-person or virtual rehearsal schedule.

  • Accompany Cantilena performances, generally 2-3 per season in the Arlington or greater Boston area.

  • Maintain high-quality rehearsal and performance standards aligned with the organization's core values of musical excellence, expression, and community.

  • Lead occasional sectional rehearsals as deemed necessary by the Music Director.

  • Meet with the Music Director on a regular basis at times mutually agreed upon, for the purposes of planning rehearsals and performances, and discussing musical and logistical performance issues.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for sharing music with all people

  • Prior experience accompanying choral ensembles

  • An appreciation for choral music written for treble voices

  • Superior collaborative playing skills and the ability to artistically respond in real-time to a conductor

  • Advanced classical piano technique

  • Advanced sight-reading ability

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Performance or Collaborative Piano, advanced degree preferred

  • Demonstrated success as a collaborative artist, coaching and playing for classical singers

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Proactive approach, flexibility, and positive attitude


Compensation:
This position is paid hourly, at a rate commensurate with experience.

Candidates will be asked to perform a 3-4 minute solo selection of their choice and to sight read, as well as participate in an interview.
